The KAPI of Holargos, where a Digital Empowerment Hub for the elderly operates, was visited today by the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Domna Michaelidou, in the framework of the programme “All Digital – Digital Education and Empowerment of the Elderly and Persons with Disabilities”.
The Minister spoke with beneficiaries of the programme and observed the training process. The KAPI of Holargos has two sections, with a total of 30 participants, who learn how to use digital tools they need in their daily lives: from communicating with their family and loved ones to the safe use of online services and accessing digital applications of the state.
The Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Domna Michailidou, said: “At the KAPI of Holargos we met people who prove in practice that learning and development have no age. We saw up close their enthusiasm and willingness to acquire new skills that make their everyday life easier and safer. Technology is changing the way we live, communicate and serve. The challenge is to make this change work for everyone. For an older person to be able to communicate more easily with their family, to use basic digital services, to be served safely without depending on someone else every time. This is what the Digital Empowerment Programme does. It gives our elderly citizens, as well as people with disabilities, autonomy, security and greater confidence in everyday life. This is the essence of social policy: making everyday life easier, safer and more accessible for all.”
The “All Digital” programme, which is part of the overall policy of the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family for equal access to digital knowledge and education, is aimed at older people and people with disabilities and aims to familiarise them with basic digital services and tools for everyday life. Using a mobile phone, communicating through apps, searching for information online and using digital services are now an essential part of everyday life.
The Minister was accompanied by Zoe Rapti, Member of Parliament for the Northern Sector of Athens, the Mayor of Papagou-Holargos Ilias Apostolopoulos and the Deputy Mayor of Digital Governance Katerina Ziabara.
