A criminal organization committing telephone fraud in Chania was dismantled, while 7 cases of fraud (6 completed and one attempted) were detected. As members of the organization were identified 6 residents of which were arrested 3 of them having extracted money and jewelry totaling 62,000 euros
The dismantling, detection and arrests were the result of thorough investigation and exploitation of evidence of police officers of the Sub-Directorate of Prosecution and Detection of Crimes Chania. For these cases identified the six nationals aged 19 to 40 years and arrested three of them, namely 27 year old, 21 year old and 19 year old. Against them a case was formed for criminal organization that committed fraud by association and serial and occasional robbery and violations of drug legislation.
According to the evidence on the part of the EL.AS during the period from 16 to 30 April unknown unknown calls to fixed and mobile connections residents of the Municipality of Chania presenting themselves either as employees of the DEDDIE or as accountants. In six cases they managed to persuade their interlocutors to place money or jewellery in an indicated unattended place outside their homes, which was then received by a member of the organisation who acted as a collector. The specific perpetrators, as the police investigation proved, with a different composition in each case, having the role of collector or driver using two vehicles and a two-wheeled motorcycle, went to the homes and received the jewelry and money.
In one case, the victim was initially convinced and collected jewellery and money, then at the time of delivery she withdrew and attempted to re-enter her home, but at that moment a member of the gang used violence to snatch her bag and fled. In the context of their action so far they managed to extract sums of money and jewellery with a total monetary value of 62,000 euros.
For these persons, organized a police operation by the Subdivision of the Prosecution and Detection of Crimes Chania, yesterday 01.05.2026 identified two of the perpetrators and specifically the 27-year-old and 19-year-old during their disembarkation with two cars.E. vehicles in Piraeus and were arrested by police officers of the Department of Detection and Investigation of Crimes of Keratsini – Drapetsona and the Department of Investigation of Crimes of Kamini – N. Faliro and the vehicles were seized.
In addition, in searches carried out at their homes in an area of Chania by police officers of the Sub-Directorate of Crime Detection and Investigation of Chania arrested and the 21-year-old and found and seized: “jewellery, the sum of 5,000 euros, a number of clothes, mobile phones, 24 grams of cannabis, a helmet worn by one of the perpetrators in a jewellery pick-up case and a two-wheeled motorcycle which they used for their action.” Some of the jewellery was identified by one of the victims and returned to her.
The investigation and preliminary questioning of police officers of the Sub-Directorate for the Prosecution and Detection of Crimes Chania, continues both for the identification of the details of any accomplices, and for the full investigation of their actions and their participation in other similar criminal acts.
