A total of 732 vehicle checks were carried out in one day, as part of a coordinated police action in the Regional Unit of Chania. During the controls were confirmed 333 violations of the Road Traffic Code and 17 vehicles were immobilized. The operation was organized yesterday, 15-4-2026, by the General Regional Police Directorate of Crete, aimed at preventing traffic accidents and the confirmation of dangerous violations. The checks involved police officers of the Traffic Department of Chania, with the assistance of forces from other Traffic Departments and the Northern Road Axis of Crete.

In more detail, the offences detected involved, among others, 45 cases of non-use of seat belts, 12 non-use of helmets, 7 speeding, 15 priority violations and 31 illegal manoeuvres. In addition, 10 red traffic light violations, 11 cases of using a mobile phone while driving, 8 vehicles with worn tyres, 11 offences related to technical inspection (MOT) and 22 driving on the opposite side of the road were recorded, while 161 offences concerned other violations of the Highway Code. According to the police, police checks will continue throughout Crete, with the aim of enhancing road safety and fostering a sense of security among citizens.
