With heads bowed, wearing bulletproof vests and hoods, the three arrested men were brought before an investigator and the blame game for the 19-year-old’s death continues.
After a marathon plea before the investigating judge, all three defendants were taken to jail by a joint decision of the investigating judge and the prosecutor. They have been charged with manslaughter by omission, a particularly serious felony, while the investigation remains ongoing at other levels.
The apologies
“I don’t know the 19-year-old. I went into the room because the 23-year-old called me. I had drugs, but not because I was dealing. Myrto was on the phone with the 66-year-old from Preveza. At some point and while she was using, she sat on the bed and started having convulsions. I put my hand over her mouth to stop her tongue from turning. When I saw that she was not well, I called the ambulance.”
“The 26-year-old came in, brought us the drugs and Myrtle paid him. At one point, I went out on the balcony and saw her having a seizure. Then I decided to call the ambulance and the 26-year-old and the 22-year-old told me they didn’t want an ambulance so they wouldn’t get in trouble,” the 23-year-old defendant testified.
“There is audio evidence that proves I spoke and called the ambulance from the 23-year-old’s cellphone. I carried Myrtle downstairs to expedite her transfer to the hospital. I put her on the wall and covered her with her coat,” the 26-year-old added in his statement.
The third defendant, the 22-year-old, claims he has no connection to the girl.
“I know the 26-year-old, but I did not go to the hotel to find them. I stayed in another room and went for another person who was staying there. They knocked on my door around 4:20am to ask for help. I saw that the girl was not well. I waited for the ambulance, I was there, I didn’t leave.”
Heartbreaking last “goodbye” to Myrto
Relatives and friends said goodbye to their own angel yesterday afternoon.
“Today is the worst day of my life, today I don’t know if you understand, I have my child’s funeral. But I also have his wedding today. I also have his wedding. I dressed her up as a bride last night, I said, “My little bride, my little bride, you cheated me. You cheated me, child, I tell her,'” her father said.
