An alarm was raised with port authorities following a report of an explosive device being placed on the passenger-car ferry “Blue Star 2”.
The ship, which was on a scheduled route from Piraeus to Syros, Patmos, Leros, Kalymnos, Kos, and Rhodes, docked at the port of Lavrio so that the required inspections could be carried out by bomb disposal experts from the Hellenic Coast Guard – and a special explosive detection dog.
According to reports, there are 952 passengers and 98 crew members on board the ship.
Meanwhile, teams from the Fire Department and the National Ambulance Service (EKAV) are heading to the port of Lavrio, while investigations are underway to look into the report.
So far, no further details have been released regarding the origin of the threat, while the relevant authorities are examining all possibilities.
