Significant enhancement of the effectiveness of customs controls and an increase in public revenues was recorded within the first year of operation of the Customs Audit Centre (CAC) of Attica, as the data announced by the Independent Public Revenue Authority show.

In 2025, customs revenue increased by €400 million compared to 2024, even though the value of imported goods decreased by €5 billion and their volume by 6.8 million tonnes. This performance, as the AADE stressed in its statement, reflects the strengthening of customs compliance and the more effective response to customs irregularities and smuggling phenomena, such as underpricing.

As of February 24, 2025, 53 customs offices in the territory have been incorporated into the Attica Customs Service, including the critical units for the supervision of the country’s freight gates and warehouses in Central and Southern Greece (Piraeus, Elefsina, Greater West Attica, Athens International Airport, Patras, Heraklion).

The Attica Customs Office now manages the bulk of customs procedures for imports and goods subject to excise duty (energy, tobacco, alcoholic beverages), collecting 75% of imports and excise duty declarations in the whole territory.

Customs that have been integrated into the Attica Customs Service, collect 78.5% of total customs revenues, which amounted to 12.9 billion euros in 2025.

In the individual main categories of customs revenue, their participation was as follows for 2025:

In its statement, the Hellenic Customs Service stresses that it will continue to invest in the modernization of customs, strengthening Greece’s role as a reliable and competitive trade hub in the wider region.
