The 53-year-old Albanian man arrested in Thessaloniki remains in custody, as he is wanted by the authorities in his home country for participation in a criminal organization and money laundering, which are alleged to have originated, among other things, from drug trafficking cases.
The competent Judicial Council is expected to rule on the request for his extradition to Albania in the near future.
The 53-year-old was taken this morning to the Thessaloniki Court of Appeals Prosecutor’s Office for the execution of the Red Notice issued by the Albanian authorities, which are seeking his arrest and extradition for the aforementioned offenses allegedly committed in 2020 in Tirana.
Before the competent prosecutor, the 53-year-old stated that he does not consent to his extradition, while he reportedly denied the charges, claiming that he was “implicated” in the case without having any involvement.
This followed his arrest by officers of the Northern Greece Organized Crime Division, following information transmitted through international police cooperation channels and INTERPOL, as announced by the Hellenic Police. The 53-year-old is reported to have entered the country early Friday morning via a border crossing in Northern Greece, and was located the same day at a hotel in Thessaloniki.
