Nine youths, aged between 17 and 20, were arrested by officers of the Amnesty Squad in the early morning hours of May 30 in the Peania area for assaulting two youths with the use of a club and physical violence.
A case was filed against the arrested men by the Department of Prosecution and Investigation of Crimes in Peania for dangerous bodily harm, bodily harm to weak persons, robbery in aid of robbery and violation of the legislation on weapons.
According to police, the nine accused, along with persons still wanted, approached a group of youths in a Peania park and attacked an 18-year-old man using a bat, injuring him in the head. They then attacked a 16-year-old from whom they used physical force to remove the shoes he was wearing.
In the immediate aftermath of the incident, officers of the América police conducted searches in the area and located the nine youths riding in a vehicle in Peania. The suspects were brought to the Peania Crime Investigation and Detection Department, where they were identified as the perpetrators of the attack.
During the investigation, authorities seized the vehicle the accused were in, as well as the bat allegedly used in the attack.
The arrested persons were taken to the relevant prosecutor.
