The abuse case that has rocked Crete is taking on new dimensions, while authorities are now investigating the circumstances of the death of two infants from the same family

The mother and father of the 3-year-old girl, who is in a critical condition in the Pagni Children’s ICU, are being taken to the investigator and the prosecutor today, after the serious findings that, according to the attending physicians, point to abuse of the child.

This was a case that escalated sharply, with his parents arrested for child endangerment but then the charge was upgraded to attempted murder. The child is still in the Intensive Care Unit of Pagni and is in a serious condition, with doctors closely monitoring his health, as just last Thursday night he was found unconscious in a playground and transferred to the Hospital of Chania.

At the same time, new shocking details are coming to light surrounding the same case, as the authorities’ investigation is now focusing on the deaths of two more children of the same family.

According to information from neakriti.gr and Kriti TV, in fact, what revealed the existence of the two children was the investigation into the mother’s AMKA.

In particular, according to reports, the Security of Chania is examining with particular attention the circumstances under which two infants of the family died in the past. The mother allegedly claimed to police officers that the children died during breastfeeding, with her allegations now being investigated as part of the ongoing preliminary investigation.

Recall that the chronicle of the abuse of the 3-year-old girl became known when the doctors who treated her found multiple injuries on her body, which mobilized the authorities, who immediately began investigations for possible abuse. According to what the child’s mother allegedly claimed, the three-year-old girl was with her and relatives in a playground in Chania before the incident.

From “child endangerment” the charge quickly turned to “attempted murder” as evidence both on the 3-year-old girl’s body and on the wider family environment led to the case being changed from a misdemeanor to a felony.

At the same time, by order of the prosecutor, three more children of the same family were transferred to the Hospital of Chania and are under the care of the relevant services. According to the information, they also bear injuries, but their state of health is better. In fact, the father of the family, a Pakistani national, who was arrested with his wife yesterday Sunday afternoon, seems to have been wanted by the authorities before the incident. Investigations are continuing in order to fully clarify the circumstances under which the 3-year-old child was injured and to establish the situation in which the other minors in the family were living.

Of course, the little girl continues to be hospitalized in a critical condition in the ICU, as the doctors who examined her immediately found, through imaging tests, the existence of a subdural hematoma in the head, as confirmed by the commander of Pagni Mr. George Chalkiadakis to neakriti.gr, stressing that “the child had a subdural hematoma, a fracture in the right arm, as well as multiple abrasions and ecchymoses. He remains intubated, and underwent an MRI scan, which confirmed both the hematoma and brain contusions. The child’s condition is still considered very critical.”
