In a television appearance on Friday night, May 22, on the show In the arms of Fanis, Kostas Sommer and his wife Valentini Papadakis talked about the time they were expecting their first child and revealed how they ended up having a civil marriage.
Valentini Papadakis described how, as her pregnancy progressed, there was no clear discussion of marriage. When she decided to raise the issue directly with her partner, she humorously pointed out to him that if they did not get married before the birth, the baby would initially be given her surname. The actor’s reaction, he said, was immediate and strong.
As she later mentioned, shortly before she gave birth they finally went ahead with a civil marriage, with her admitting that she was the one who actually pushed for the proceedings to be expedited. According to her, Kostas Sommer at the time was more focused on the child’s arrival than on arranging a wedding.
For his part, the actor explained that he always wanted to get married and start a family, he just imagined the process differently and with more preparation time. However, the thought that the child would initially be registered under a different surname was something he couldn’t accept.
The couple were united in a civil marriage in August 2021 in Alimos, a few days before their son, Jason, was born. They later had their second daughter, Simoni, who was born in December 2022.
