features five European destinations that still maintain their authenticity and offer quality holiday experiences without the conditions of over-tourism. They are Valdoviño in Spain, Donousa in the Small Cyclades, Puy-l’Évêque in France, Brisighella in Italy and the historic town of Tomar in Portugal.
According to the publication, Donoussa is among the “last remaining summer paradises in the Mediterranean”, retaining its unchanged Cycladic character, tranquillity and unpretentious beauty. The island stands out for its turquoise waters, unexplored beaches, picturesque paths and the slow, human pace of life it offers visitors. The limited size of the destination, the absence of massive tourist infrastructure and the direct contact with nature create a unique combination of relaxation and authenticity.
Special reference is made to the impressive beaches of Donousa, such as Kedros with its crystal clear waters and golden sand, Livadi with its exotic landscape and serene atmosphere, but also to the small settlements of the island, which retain unchanged the traditional Cycladic identity. The publication also underlines the importance of hiking routes, which allow visitors to discover the natural landscape, the chapels, the steep coasts and the unique images of the Aegean, offering experiences of experiential and alternative tourism.
Donousa, the northernmost island of the Small Cyclades, is a destination that combines simplicity with authenticity, natural beauty with tranquility and traditional hospitality with sustainable tourism development. This international recognition is part of the invitation of the Municipality of Naxos and the Small Cyclades, as it was preceded by an informative meeting with a representative of the media at the major tourism exhibition in Berlin, ITB. The municipality’s wider efforts include targeted contacts at international exhibitions, destination presentations abroad, media missions and development of travel social media through a range of activities.
“Visitors are now looking for authentic experiences, sustainable destinations and multi-thematic options. The Small Cyclades and Naxos have the ideal mix: Unique nature, authentic hospitality, gastronomy, culture, outdoor activities, hiking, marine experiences and high quality of life. We continue to highlight the multi-dimensional character of our islands, enhancing their extroversion and international visibility,” said Deputy Mayor of Tourism of the Municipality of Naxos and Small Cyclades Vangelis Katsaras.
