An alarm was raised this morning in Drapetsona, after a fire broke out in a first-floor apartment of a block of flats at the junction of Papastratou and Sparta streets.
According to the fire service, a mother and her son were living in the apartment, who were evacuated, while the other residents left the building as a precautionary measure, in order to avoid the danger of the dense smoke and the spread of the fire.
Powerful fire brigade forces are operating at the scene, with 20 firefighters, six vehicles and a special armoured vehicle, battling to extinguish the fire and contain it to other apartments.
The cause of the fire remains unknown so far, while the situation caused disruption to residents in the area.
