Jiorgos Kapoutzidis returned from Vienna with the Greek delegation after the end of Eurovision 2026, where Akylas finished in 10th place.
After his return, at the Eleftherios Venizelos airport, George Kapoutzidis spoke to reporters.
“We wanted to go a bit further, we deserved it. That’s how this competition is, sometimes you get a good thing that you don’t expect, like last year when we were higher than we were told. Other times you get a sadness because you’re going for higher, but you end up going lower. This happens every year, what can we do?”
When asked if tomorrow some people on the shows will start to demote Akyla and the whole effort, George Kapoutzidis replied, “From my experience, in Greek television you can see everything. But what is very important is that this competition is like that. And that’s how you have to understand it.
The televoting we got is the best we have got since this system started with the separation, first committees and then televoting. It’s even better than last year’s.”
