Tension and violent incidents were recorded at noon at the University of West Attica, when a group of about ten people invaded the premises of the institution. According to reports, the assailants had their faces covered with helmets and attacked two people, who were injured and taken to hospital for first aid.
The incident comes a day before student elections and follows serious incidents at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where seven people ended up in hospital after clashes.
The authorities made eight arrests. According to reports, a group of 7 to 10 people moved from the area of the Barutadiko grove in Egaleo towards the university, in possession of helmets, gloves, knives and sledgehammers.
Departmental forces of the SWAT team and the Police Department arrived at the scene and made the arrests, while two slightly injured students were spotted in a nearby cafeteria and reported being attacked by the individuals who entered the university premises.
The accused were taken to the YAREB, while the injured were taken by ambulance to the Thriasio Hospital.
