The event of the Ministry of Development presents the results of the plan for the productive transformation of the Greek economy and the priorities for investment in industry and innovation.

The event, entitled “Development Law, Strategic Investments: Contributing to Productive Transformation with Priorities for Industry and Innovation”, was addressed by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, while the keynote speaker was Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in his speech: “The event is taking place in an extremely volatile international environment as the conflict in the Middle East continues and global economic uncertainty is intensifying and affecting not only the security of navigation but also energy costs and supply chains and transport and investment psychology,” the Prime Minister said, speaking at the event organised by the Ministry of Development on “Development Law, Strategic Investments: Contributing to Productive Transformation with Priorities for Industry and Innovation”.

“Greece,” the Prime Minister said, “has achieved something that a few years ago seemed difficult to be a port of normalcy and political stability.”

The prime minister also said that, especially in the manufacturing and industrial sector, “we have increased employment with 60,000 new jobs, which clearly indicates that we have more and well-paid jobs.”

Kyriakos Mitsotakis referred to two positive developments concerning the approval of an equal number of proposals from the EU special fund.

“I want to stress the importance of funding the investment that will allow us to produce Gallium, a critical raw material that is part of the EU strategy from useful raw materials imported from outside the EU. We have secured €200 million for the modernisation of high value-added plants. Greece is acquiring new tools to defend itself against difficulties by creating important developmental counterweights. Just as we have supported households and small and medium-sized enterprises and farmers over the years, it is time to stand by energy-intensive industry.

After negotiations with the Commission we have reached a conclusion and announcements will be made by the ministry in the next 15 days. It is a difficult time with energy prices going uphill and this will be of concern to the European Council. The EU must be prepared for this crisis to last longer. We need to absorb the lessons of the energy crisis of 2022 and with tools of a temporary and targeted nature we can support both businesses and households against the increased energy costs. The measures we announced were necessary to deal with speculative phenomena of a temporary nature and I hope we will not have to extend them beyond 3 months.

In today’s circumstances, speed and predictability are needed. We have taken steps to deal with red tape but we are not yet where we want to be. We cannot afford to get lost in labyrinths and dead ends. Neither ambiguities nor inertia are allowed,” Kyriakos Mitsotakis said.

In conclusion, the Prime Minister stressed: “I want entrepreneurs in our country, especially small and medium-sized entrepreneurs, to feel security, predictability and stability in order to implement their business plans. We cannot accept unjustified delays that will blow up a business plan.”

The finalization of the land use plan for industry is also of great value and is a milestone for the Recovery Fund. It will be put out for public consultation in the spring taking into account the suggestions of the agencies directly involved so that it can be voted on as soon as possible.

In this global storm, Greece responds with the anchor of certainty provided by institutional seriousness and internal stability. And with the driving force of growth and social progress through investment. It is a bet that is primarily political, but it is also a timely bet that the state and the business community will win”.
