Sophia Arvanitis was a guest on the show “Kalimera είπαμε?” where she spoke about the compromises she had to make during her career, as she was under financial pressure.
“We who made a living from singing felt – and with encouragement from the labels – that we had to swim a little bit in these waters. We also made purely popular records, moderate hits, but not failures. I say mediocre because that’s not exactly what we were. We went to see how it was done. We kind of lost our identity,” he noted.
“I then said, ‘well, never mind,’ and the pay was better, something was pushing me away. Then there were popular acts. I worked with Rocco, with Sfakianakis, with heavy folk names, with names that were very much in the spotlight and had hits and hits. We got jobs as the first women that people introduced us to as pop singers, but our second programs were more popular to get people dancing. I didn’t fit in with all that and that’s why I got out.
I understood that I wanted to get off lightly, even though my annual income was greatly reduced. I didn’t mind at all. It was my choice. Combined with the crisis of not being able to find decent jobs, because I had checks and I had to be able to pay my obligations at the times I had to, I forced myself to work in some schemes that were…with some highway names so to speak, because I said I didn’t want to end up in jail. I forced myself for 2-3 years, but okay, I’m fine,” he said.
