This Friday afternoon, a tractor crushed and killed a 58-year-old farmer in Vartholomio, Ilia.
More specifically, shortly after 4:30pm on Friday, a 58-year-old man breathed his last in his field in a rural area in Vartholomio, in the municipality of Pinios in Ilia, as he was crushed – under unclear circumstances – by the tractor he was driving.
According to evidence so far from the police investigation, the unfortunate farmer appears to have been working on his crops when his tractor overturned and crushed him, fatally injuring him in the head.
Firefighters from Lehaina immediately arrived at the scene with five vehicles and 11 firefighters to extricate him.
Emergency ambulance transported him to Pyrgos Hospital, where doctors found his death, as the unfortunate 58-year-old had succumbed to his injuries.
Investigation into the exact circumstances under which the tragic incident unfolded is being conducted by the police officers of the Pinios police station.
