An explosive incident was recorded in the early hours of Friday morning at an OPEKEPE facility in the Omonia area, causing a disturbance to the authorities.
According to reports, the incident occurred at around 04:00, when unknown persons approached the back of the building, placed an improvised incendiary device and set fire using flammable material.
The explosion of one of the four gas canisters caused a small fire, which resulted in limited damage to the entrance of the building.
Police forces were immediately deployed to the scene, however the offenders had already fled before officers arrived. Although there was a patrol car at the main entrance of the building, it was not possible to locate them.
The flames were quickly brought under control without spreading to other areas, while the remains of the device were collected and taken to forensic laboratories for examination.
At the same time, authorities are analyzing footage from security cameras in the area, looking for clues that will lead to the identification of those involved. The preliminary investigation into the case has been taken over by the State Security Department.
