The value of exports to the US remained stable in 2025 despite the uncertainty created by the Trump administration’s imposition of tariffs on global trade, according to a briefing note from the Office of Economic and Commercial Affairs at the Embassy of Greece in Washington, D.C.

More specifically, Greek exports stood at 2.4 billion euros in 2025, compared to 2.41 billion euros in 2024, recording a marginal 0.3% decline, while imports from the US rose by 8.5% to 2.34 billion euros, from 2.16 billion euros the previous year. Total bilateral trade volume stood at 4.75 billion euros, up 3.8%, while Greece’s trade surplus narrowed to 60 million euros from 250 million euros in 2024.

The contribution of the energy sector continues to be decisive. Greek energy imports from the US reached €1.18 billion in 2025, of which 95% was for liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes worth €1.13 billion, imported via Revithoussa and the Alexandroupolis floating plant, and channeled to neighbouring markets. According to the note, LNG accounts for 48% of total US exports to Greece.

Oil products also make a large contribution to Greek exports to the US, which amounted to €581 million in 2025. Of this, 64% is for aircraft fuel, which is estimated to be mainly linked to the refuelling of US flights at Greek airports in the context of increased tourist traffic. These fuel exports offset about 35% of Greece’s energy imports from the US.

In terms of products, there has been an increase in exports of industrial products such as iron, aluminum and copper, despite the imposition of tariffs of up to 50%, as well as in categories such as vehicles and parts, tools, weapons and ammunition. In contrast, basic agri-food products were down, with standard and processed foodstuffs at 335.4 million euros (-7.7%), dairy products and honey at 74.5 million euros (-4.5%) and olive oil at 71 million euros (-8.4%).

Excluding oil products, Greece maintains a trade surplus with the US, which amounted to 660 million euros in 2025, compared to 720 million euros in 2024. Overall, Greece-US bilateral trade remains at high levels, with energy and tourism playing a key role in shaping trade flows.
