A special information and prevention action on breast cancer, on the occasion of Mother’s Day, is organized on May 10 by the Association of Women with Breast Cancer “Alma Zois” of Thessaloniki Prefecture, entitled “I love you, Mom! Take care!”. The event will take place in the courtyard of the Municipal Hall of Thessaloniki, with free admission for the public.
A free clinical breast screening (palpation) will be held at the event for women who wish to be screened. The clinical screening is aimed at women up to 45 years of age, who are not included in the National Breast Cancer Prevention Screening Programme “Fofi Gennimata”, and there will also be a free breast ultrasound. The examinations will take place in a specially designed area at the Town Hall from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Trained volunteers from the association will also provide information on prevention, early diagnosis and management of the disease.
At the same time, activities for children have been planned, such as crafts and constructions to give to their mothers, a musical performance by students of the 16th Kindergarten of Thessaloniki dedicated to all mothers, a fashion workshop, face painting and easy hairstyles, stilt, inflatable castle, reading club, painting exhibition and musical and kinetic events, with the aim of the day to function not only as a preventive action but also as a great family celebration.
“We invite you to be part of a beautiful, bright day for the whole family. A celebration dedicated to prevention and life. Come and give our moms a hug. To remind them how important it is to take care of themselves. Let’s give our children the most powerful message: that prevention is an act of love for all of us. Let us come and fill our hearts with hope and our Sundays with beautiful moments. Because when we are together, everything seems possible. And for one day we too can become children again , with our children,” notes the president of the Association Kyriakoula Derekenari.
