Prevention and equal access to health services were the focus of the visit of the Deputy Minister of Health, Irene Agapidaki, to Ilion. On the occasion of the action of the Mobile Health Teams of the EODY, Mrs Agapidaki highlighted the importance of home care for vulnerable social groups, while presenting the plan for the radical upgrade of the health map of Western Athens with permanent, modern infrastructure.

The planned intervention of the EODY’s HMOs started from the 4th KAPI of Ilion and continued with targeted visits to the homes of citizens facing serious mobility difficulties. Specialized doctors and nurses provided free critical health services – such as blood sugar and blood pressure measurements, spirometry and cardiograms – while informing residents about the importance of early diagnosis.

“The Mobile Health Teams are one of the most meaningful, humane interventions we are implementing, bringing health services and the doctor directly to the citizen’s doorstep. Our goal is clear: to leave no one behind, especially the elderly, people with disabilities and those unable to reach a health facility. The numbers speak for themselves: more than 49,000 citizens have so far been examined by the CMCs across the country, while more than 11,000 of our fellow citizens have received care at their bedsides,” Agapidaki said.

She said that “Western Athens is gradually acquiring the stable infrastructure that its residents deserve and rightfully deserve. We are in full swing to create an integrated Primary Health Care network. We are proceeding with the development of Multipurpose Regional Clinics in Petroupoli and Ano Liosia, we are establishing a University Health Centre in Peristeri, we are bringing a branch of the Aghia Sophia Children’s Hospital here in Ilion and we are creating a Model Centre for Dementia in Peristeri. We are transforming prevention from a theory into a daily practice for every citizen.”

It is reminded that citizens can contact EODY daily (08:00-16:00) via the toll-free telephone line 1135. Through the same telephone line, they can be informed about the activities of the fixed clinics of the CMOs in their area, as well as submit requests for the scheduling of home visits.
