Court employees in Athens are expected to hold demonstrations today, Monday 4/5 and tomorrow Tuesday, who are protesting against the security conditions at their workplaces, following the recent serious incident at the former Athens Magistrate’s Court, where an armed 89-year-old man shot and wounded four court employees.
The armed attack at the Court of First Instance, on Loukareos Street, highlighted serious security gaps and brought to the forefront long-standing demands of the sector.
According to what they stress, they demand the guarantee of decent and safe working conditions, as well as the immediate adoption of essential measures to protect their health and lives.
As part of the mobilization, today the judicial employees are abstaining from their duties in the services and departments housed in the former Athens Magistrate’s Court. At the same time, a two-hour work stoppage is taking place in the other judicial services of Athens, from 09:00 to 11:00.
At 09:30 a.m. a meeting is scheduled in the atrium of the former Magistrate’s Court, followed by a meeting in a room of the building. Representatives of trade unions from the justice sector have been invited to participate in the meeting. The mobilisations are expected to continue, with workers saying they are determined.
