Moments of intense distress unfolded for a 19-month-old infant in Skopelos, who had to be rushed to hospital in particularly difficult weather conditions.

It all started when the child’s parents became concerned as there were indications that he may have come into contact with rat poison. The infant was initially taken to the local hospital on the island, where doctors deemed it necessary to take him immediately to Volos for further tests.

The first attempt at transport by private boat was not completed as strong winds and bad weather forced the crew to return. Eventually, the solution was provided by the experienced captain George Kyriazis, who managed to reach Skopelos with the boat “Axion Esti” and pick up the child.

Despite the winds reaching 7-8 Beaufort and the difficult conditions at sea, the transfer was successfully completed. The boat sailed from Agnontas and reached Volos in about 1 hour and 37 minutes, a very satisfactory time given the conditions.

According to the captain, the child remained calm throughout the voyage, in the arms of his mother, while she also maintained her composure. Upon arrival at the hospital, the infant underwent the necessary tests and, according to the latest information, is now in good health.

The operation was concluded with a happy ending, leaving behind both relief and satisfaction for the prompt mobilization and professionalism of all involved.
