An incident of great concern occurred in Skopelos, when a 19-month-old infant had to be rushed to Volos Hospital due to suspected exposure to a dangerous substance.
As reported by magnesianews, parents were immediately mobilised when they thought it was possible the child had come into contact with rat poison. He was initially taken to the island’s Regional Medical Center, where doctors deemed it necessary to take him to a hospital for more specialized care and monitoring.
The transport to Volos proved difficult, as weather conditions with strong winds prevented its smooth progress. Although an attempt was initially made to evacuate the boat by private boat, it had to return. Finally, with the help of a second vessel, the “Axion Esti”, which sailed from Alonissos, the child arrived safely at his destination.
At the hospital, doctors immediately took the necessary actions, including gastric lavage, while the infant remains under close medical observation. Although he showed no obvious signs of poisoning, it was deemed appropriate for him to remain hospitalized for at least two days to ensure his full health.
