Christos Nikolopoulos spoke to MEGA’s Social Hour and journalist Theologos Iliou, shortly before his premiere at the Vergina Theatre, where he will perform with Stelios Dionysiou and Eleanna Papaioannou.

The great creator stressed that his daily contact with the bouzouki always begins with practice, in order to meet the demands of his performances. At the same time, he said that he has never tired of his songs; on the contrary, he said, he often returns to his older works with a sense of nostalgia.

Among the creations that stand out is “To Love You”, which he wrote for Eleni Vitali, while his collaboration with Giorgos Dalaras also holds a special place in his career.

Talking about the audience, he stressed that there is no “difficult” listener, but the responsibility belongs to the artists to understand the mood of the audience and adjust their programme accordingly. He said bouzouki has the power to move deeply, while the performer can lift both the song and the mood of the audience.

In a more personal confession, he said that if he were to start his career again, nothing would change. He admitted, however, that he has been jealous of songs by other creators, citing “Little Country” as an example, which he described as a great work, while expressing the view that songs of similar value are not being created today.

In conclusion, Christos Nikolopoulos noted that the only thing he does not forgive an artist is ungratefulness, stressing that despite the unpleasant experiences of the past, today he enjoys the respect of his collaborators and the public.
