Yiannis Smaragdis was interviewed on “Buongiorno” and Dimitra Tsaousi. The acclaimed filmmaker spoke about the success of the film “Kapodistrias”, but also about his wife.
He first said that the film conveyed positive energy and was particularly loved by the audience, especially by children.
Then he described an incident that moved him: while he was out to dinner with his son, a young child of about 8 years old approached him to congratulate him on the film, telling him how much he liked it.
He also pointed out that his film Kapodistrias is in fifth place in the top 10, while his film about El Greco occupies sixth. As he noted, he is the only living director to have two films in that top 10.
Finally, he spoke with great emotion about his wife, Eleni Smaragdi. He recalled a trip they took to Houston, where the film Kazantzakis was being screened, when she showed him clouds that reminded her of angels and predicted that the film would win many awards – which it eventually did. He said he believed his wife had a special sensitivity and described her as an “angel” with whom he shared his life.
