Green landscapes, clear waters and stunning coastlines are the key features of the beaches that have made it onto “The World’s 50 Best Beaches” list for 2026.

The judges travelled to multiple countries, discovering both secluded bays and well-known tourist destinations before coming up with the top picks of the year.

Fteri in Kefalonia, a beach that impresses with its secluded and imposing beauty, came in second place worldwide. It is tucked away in a quiet cove, surrounded by steep white cliffs, while access is mainly by boat or through a demanding hike along a steep path. The difficulty of approach helps to preserve its tranquillity and authenticity, far from the crowds of other destinations.

The impressive white cliffs hug the coast, forming a unique backdrop of white pebbles and sand that end in the crystal clear blue waters of the Ionian Sea. The untouched natural beauty and tranquil atmosphere of Fteri make it an ideal destination for those seeking relaxation and meaningful contact with nature, which led the judges to describe it as “enchanting, with an impressive natural setting”.

In the same list, Porto Katsiki in 34th place and Porto Timoni in 46th place also stand out.

It is worth noting that at European level, Fteri took the first place, while Porto Katsiki and Porto Timoni were in 5th and 9th place respectively.
