A criminal organization active in drug and arms trafficking in Attica, Thessaloniki and Crete has been dismantled by the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime.

Specifically, eight members of the organisation were arrested in a coordinated operation yesterday, while one more person is wanted.

A case has been filed against them – in some cases – for criminal organisation and breaches of weapons and drugs legislation.

According to police, the members of the organisation had distinct roles and were active in the supply, storage and trafficking of drugs, such as cannabis (raw and processed) and cocaine, with the aim of obtaining illegal financial gain.

Researches carried out at homes found and seized, among other things, about 3.9 kilos of cocaine, more than 3.1 kilos of cannabis, precision scales, the sum of 5,875 euros, 14 mobile phones, four vehicles and two motorcycles, as well as drug packaging equipment.

The total illegal financial benefit of the organization, according to the ELAS, is estimated to exceed 117,800 euros.

As noted in the relevant statement, one of the accused had previously been employed by the authorities for similar offences, while an arrest warrant was pending against him.

The arrests were carried out by police officers of the Department for the Protection of Cultural Heritage and Antiquities, with the assistance of the Operational Teams Department of the Sub-Directorate for Information and Special Operations.
The arrested persons were taken to the competent prosecutor’s office.
