Dimitris Makalias was a guest of Stefanos Konstantinidis earlier today (Tuesday 28/4) on Alpha. In an all-encompassing interview, the actor spoke about how his TV coexistence with Betty Maggira began, mentioning that at first the presenter was negative about their collaboration.
“I haven’t done as many auditions as people say. I’ve done two or three for TV series, fiction that is. Come to think of it, I’ve only done auditions for Lambros Fisfi’s series! For Burn the Script. Actually, wherever I go to audition, they don’t want me at first. I don’t know who puts me on, for my good luck,” Dimitris Makalias said at the beginning of the conversation.
“So Modern Family didn’t want me and at the last minute something happened and they liked the audition. In Burn the Script, Lambros didn’t even invite me to the audition! I went on my own. I said, “Well, you’re doing something new and you didn’t invite me?” And I did,” he reveals.
About Betty Maggira and their collaboration on the morning show on OREN, Dimitris Makalias said:
“You know what, I think they talk about it, they discuss it, more than they call me. I mean, the first audition I did for a game show was Lingo. And to tell you about Betty, Betty didn’t want me! On Open. She says, “Now where do I fit in with him?” Other people put me on.
In the first audition for the team, Betty didn’t believe me at all. “We don’t fit with this man, what do I bring him in for?” she said. We didn’t know each other! Barely, socially from the theatre. […] Then the truth is that we bonded. So at the Open, the two years, it was a very strong partnership.”
“Morning Weekend is a zone that we started, because ANT1 had turned it off for many, many years. I would like to have started and established a new zone on ANT1 and for it to do well, for a partnership to thrive there and for it to do well.
Some shows need a little more time. And I think it was a very big step and nice that ANT1 took with this show. Instead of trying out shoddy things, I feel like they should have invested more and left it for another year. But that’s my personal opinion, because I have a vested interest in it. I’d like to be on this show another year. When a channel feels that this show doesn’t fit their profile, logically… So they change it. At any cost,” Dimitris Makalias concludes on the matter.
