Scenes of widespread destruction were recorded early Monday morning in central Athens, when a 29-year-old man damaged dozens of parked vehicles.

The incident occurred at about 02:50, when the Greek police were informed and officers rushed to the scene. There they spotted the man in a state of intense agitation, causing damage along Alkiviadou, Magnesia and Acharnon streets, breaking windows, windscreens and causing dents in about 30 vehicles.

According to reports, he used a wooden object while hitting cars even with his hands and head. He was slightly injured by this behaviour and was taken to the Red Cross Hospital, where he is being treated under guard.

The 29-year-old was arrested and charges were brought against him for damaging foreign property, violating weapons laws, as well as for being in the country illegally, as he did not have the required documents.
