An alarm was raised by authorities after a shooting incident late Sunday night in the center of Thessaloniki.
At around one past midnight, unknown gunmen opened fire on a 28-year-old man, wounding him in the lower limbs, before fleeing the scene. The incident was noticed by a woman passing by, who alerted authorities.
The injured man was taken to Papageorgiou Hospital, where he was given first aid. According to the information available so far, his state of health is not a cause for concern, as the injuries did not affect any vital points or arteries.
Reports say the 28-year-old had applied for asylum in the country. Police authorities are looking into all possibilities, with the most prevalent scenario being a case of clearing between individuals associated with organised crime rings, as similar incidents have been recorded in the past.
