The names of businessman, winemaker and former mayor of Thessaloniki Yannis Boutaris and singer-songwriter, composer and lyricist Dionysis Savvopoulos are expected to be given to two parks in the municipality of Thessaloniki. In this way, the two personalities who have passed away will be honoured.

Specifically, the park located opposite the Thessaloniki City Hall and enclosed by the streets of V. George A’, 3rd September and 30th October 1944 will be named “Park Yannis Boutaris”. In addition, the green space located between Georgiou Papandreou and Maria Callas streets will be named after Dionysis Savvopoulos.

The two naming ceremonies are on the agenda of the Thessaloniki City Council, which will meet on Thursday 30 April and the relevant recommendations will be made by the president of the body, Spyros Vougias. On the same agenda, for approval, is the park between Grigorios Afxentiou – Emmanuel Xanthou – Polygyros and Nikolaos Skoufa to be named “Park of Friendship between Greece and Cyprus”.
