Nikos Romanos and two other defendants in the case of the explosion in an apartment on Arkadias Street in Ampelokipi in October 2024 were found not guilty due to doubts by the Three-Member Court of Appeal of the Criminal Court.
The court found Mariana Manouras guilty, who was seriously injured when the device exploded in the hands of her partner, Kyriakos Xymitis, killing him instantly, as well as Demetra Z, who had arranged for the couple to be accommodated in the area in question.
After more than 17 months in prison, Nikos Romanos, like Dimitris P. and Argyris K. are now free.
The court accepted the prosecution’s motion that had sought the guilt of the two women and the acquittal “due to serious doubts” of Nikos Romanos, and two other defendants. One, like Romanos, faced justice because of a partial fingerprint on a bag, while the third of the acquitted had been involved in handing over the keys to the apartment.
The two women were convicted, as appropriate, of the following offenses: criminal organization, aggravated manufacture of explosive devices, possession of explosives, explosive devices, pistols and ammunition, supply and possession of explosives, explosive device, explosion using explosives, damage to property of another.
The proceedings continue as the sentences for the two defendants are expected to be announced today.
