A 55-year-old man who had been holed up with a gun since yesterday afternoon in an apartment in Neos Kosmos was arrested shortly after a domestic violence incident against his mother.
The incident began shortly after 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, when an 81-year-old woman called the emergency services and reported that her son, with whom she lives in an apartment building on Soulioton Street, had beaten her. At the same time, the 81-year-old woman informed the authorities that the 55-year-old is a drug user and that there is a gun in the house.
Police forces and a special negotiator of the ELAS immediately arrived at the scene, who tried to convince the 55-year-old, who allegedly has psychological problems, to surrender. Eventually the 55-year-old was arrested after a police operation that ended shortly after 9am.
The 55-year-old’s mother, who had managed to leave the apartment a short time after being attacked, is at the local police station, and it has been reported by the police that she has a bruise on her eye.
