Diplomatic sources responded to Turkey’s reactions to issues of cooperation and maritime planning, sending a clear message that Greece is shaping its foreign policy autonomously.
They stressed that “the country does not put its alliances under the approval of third countries,” commenting on Ankara’s objections to Greek-Israeli cooperation.
The same sources stressed that the Greek side has moved towards a clear formulation of its positions, promoting tools such as Maritime Spatial Planning, marine parks and international cooperation, against Turkish theories such as the “Blue Homeland” and “grey zones”.
In regard to the incident in the Cassius region with a Dutch ship, diplomatic sources noted that Ankara is following a standard harassment tactic. They stressed, however, that the authority to issue permits in the area is internationally recognized as belonging to Greece.
They concluded by stressing that the recent tensions on the part of Turkey do not contribute to stability, with Greece declaring its commitment to peace, security and prosperity in the wider region.
