Travel receipts rose by 70.7% in the January-February 2026 two-month period compared to the same period last year.
According to Bank of Greece data, receipts stood at 1,006 billion euros.
This development is due to the increase of both the receipts from residents of the EU-27 countries by 74.3%, which amounted to 477.5 million euros, and the receipts from residents of other countries by 70.0%, which amounted to 516.3 million euros. More specifically, receipts from residents of euro area countries amounted to 407.9 million euro, up by 68.6%, while receipts from residents of EU-27 countries outside the euro area also recorded a significant increase, amounting to 69.5 million euro.
In particular, receipts from Germany fell by 0.8% to €66.6 million, while receipts from France increased by 76.8% to €29.4 million. Receipts from Italy increased by 41.5% to €55.6 million. Among the other countries, receipts from the United Kingdom rose to €173.4 million, while receipts from the United States fell by 13.3% to €92.5 million.
Inbound travel increased by 38.5% to 2.12 million. . travelers, compared to 1.5 million travelers in the corresponding period in 2025. In particular, travel through airports increased by 19.0%, and that through road border stations by 83.9%. In the period under review, travel from the EU-27 countries amounted to 1.1 million travellers, an increase of 49.1% compared to the corresponding period in 2025, while travel from other countries increased by 28.6% to 1.023 million travellers. Travel from euro area countries increased by 37.3%, while travel from EU-27 countries outside the euro area increased by 129.5%.
In particular, travel from Germany increased by 8.2% to 174.4 thousand travellers, as did travel from France, which increased by 41.5% to 54.8 thousand travellers. Travel from Italy also rose by 3.6%, reaching 83.7 thousand travellers. As regards non-EU 27 countries, travel from the United Kingdom increased by 56.7% to 164.2 thousand travellers, while travel from the United States decreased by 9.8% to 98.1 thousand travellers.
