Committed to its environmental commitments to reduce its carbon footprint, PPC is participating in World Earth Day again this year.
The PPC Group’s strategy is aligned with the objectives of the Paris Agreement and the European Green Deal, confirming its role as a leader in the energy transition in Southeast Europe and reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development and environmental responsibility.
With the motto for 2026 “Our Power, Our Planet”, World Earth Day continues to call for collective action, highlighting the need to accelerate action on the environment and strengthen sustainable practices. In this context, it calls on citizens, institutions and educational communities to actively contribute to the protection of the environment through information, awareness raising and participation in actions that promote responsible use of natural resources and support for clean energy.
Green investment with sustainability at the heart of the strategy
In its updated Strategic Plan for 2026-2028, PPC is further developing its Renewable Energy portfolio, with a target of 12.7GW by 2028, strengthening its green footprint and its position in the wider Southeast Europe region.
At the same time, the Group is steadily progressing towards full decarbonisation by the end of 2026, having already achieved a 58% reduction in CO₂ emissions from electricity generation in 2025 compared to 2019 and aiming to achieve long-term climate neutrality by 2040, as part of its overall strategy for a more sustainable and resilient energy transformation.
In this context, the Group is on track to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 85% in the period 2019-2028, confirming its firm commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.
The goal of PPC is to create shared value for the economy and society, taking into account the needs of all stakeholders, while contributing substantially to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Strategic vision for climate neutrality
The PPC Group is committed to drastically reducing direct CO2 emissions from electricity generation, making a substantial contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The Group has set the bar very high on sustainability issues and is firmly on track to achieve its targets. The international Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), after a thorough evaluation process, has validated the validity of the PPC Group’s short- and long-term GHG emission reduction targets. According to SBTi, the targets submitted by the Group are fully aligned with the 1.5°C warming limitation target under the Paris Agreement, as well as with achieving full climate neutrality across the value chain. Specifically, the adopted targets, which have a base year of 2021, include:
- Reduction of 73.7% and 98.6% of Scope 1 & Scope 2 GHG emissions per produced MWh by 2030 and 2040, respectively.
- Reduction of 73.7% and 98.4% of Scope 1 & Scope 3/Cat. 3 GHG emissions per unit of greenhouse gas sold MWh by 2030 and 2040, respectively.
- Reduce 42% and 90% of absolute GHG emissions in all other Scope 3 categories by 2030 and 2040 respectively.
The validation of its goals by SBTi, makes PPC Group the first Greek energy group with scientifically documented targets for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, confirming its commitment to the green transition.
