The surgery of the 13-year-old girl who fell from a school balcony in Haidari has been completed, with doctors calling the next three 24 hours critical for her health.
Doctors fought to save her, while, according to Alpha, her condition is considered extremely serious, as she had diffuse cerebral edema.
The incident occurred at around 11:00 am, causing great upheaval in the educational community. The school’s administration immediately alerted the ambulance service and an ambulance transported the student first to Attica Hospital and then to the Children’s Hospital.
Investigation by the Ministry of Education
Minister of Education, Sophia Zacharaki, visited the hospital where the 13-year-old girl from the 7th High School of Haidari was hospitalized earlier, while an investigation into the circumstances of the incident has already begun.
According to an informal briefing from the ministry, Ms Zacharaki said: “At this time the life and health of the child is paramount. The investigation into the circumstances of the incident at school level has already begun and will be full in every direction.”
A school nurse is on duty at the school, who immediately rushed to the scene and accompanied the student in the ambulance, along with a teacher.
At the same time, the Interdisciplinary Support Committee is at the school, with a psychologist and a social worker, while additional specialists from the KEDASY have been called in to enhance support.
The Educational Accountability Advisor is coordinating actions to manage the situation and support students, teachers and the wider school community.
