The large number of fires over the weekend has caused concern in the Ministry of Climate Change and Civil Protection and the Fire Service, despite the fact that it is still early days. At the same time, the authorities are sounding the alarm, noting that there is no room for relaxation when it comes to everyone’s behavior during the fire season.
Specifically, as it was announced by the Civil Protection, a total of 52 forest fires occurred over the weekend in various regions of the country.
Ministry officials stress that the occurrence of this increased number of incidents is particularly early, before the official start of the fire season, which underscores the need for increased preparedness and vigilance.
It is characteristic that, according to the data so far, the majority of the fires were caused by negligence, mainly by burning for crop cleaning, which is why the investigative services of the Fire Brigade, which investigated the causes, made arrests and imposed the prescribed administrative fines on the culprits.
It is noted that all the fires were dealt with immediately and effectively by the Fire Brigade forces that responded immediately, with rapid mobilization and coordination of ground and in two cases air assets, as well as with the assistance of the agencies involved, preventing their spread and limiting their impact.
However, as Civil Protection officials stress, the particularly high number of fires at such an early stage of the season is a reminder that constant vigilance and adherence to prevention measures remain crucial for continuity.
