“Known to authorities” is the 16-year-old arrested this morning for a hit-and-run accident that occurred yesterday on Liosia Street and resulted in serious injury to a 16-year-old girl.

Specifically, as it was made known by the National Police, the 16-year-old has been previously concerned by the authorities for various offences, including drug trafficking.

In addition to the 16-year-old, three other people were arrested, a 20-year-old woman, a 20-year-old man, who tried to conceal the identity of the driver by making false statements, and a 22-year-old man, who was a passenger on the motorbike.

It is noted that the 16-year-old girl is being treated in critical condition at the KAT hospital.

The relevant statement of the Hellenic Police Service is as follows:

“By policemen of the MI.AS. arrested in the early morning hours of today (19-4-2026) a 16-year-old driver of a two-wheeler, who in the afternoon hours of yesterday, Sunday 18 April 2026, lured, seriously injuring and abandoned a 16-year-old girl on foot, on Liosia Street in the centre of Athens.

A criminal case was filed against him for dangerous driving, negligent bodily injury, failure to rescue from a life-threatening situation and violation of the article of the Road Traffic Code concerning behaviour in case of an accident.

In addition, in the evening hours yesterday, -3- involved residents, a 20-year-old woman, a 20-year-old man and a 22-year-old man, were arrested and a case file was formed against them – if applicable – for false testimony, false complaint, harbouring a criminal, failure to rescue from a life-threatening situation and violation of the article of the Road Traffic Code concerning behaviour in the event of an accident.

More specifically, in the evening hours of 18-4-2026, a motorcycle, with two passengers, moving on Liosia Street, lured and left a seriously injured 16-year-old pedestrian, who was taken to hospital.

Later, the 20-year-old owner of the offending two-wheeler came to a police station, stating that the vehicle had been stolen, and the 20-year-old, who allegedly had been given the two-wheeler, jointly attempting to conceal the identity of the driver involved in the incident.

As part of a preliminary investigation by the Athens Traffic Police Sub-Directorate, following the use of witness statements and information data, the 16-year-old driver and the 22-year-old passenger of the two-wheeler were identified and arrested.

It is noted that the 16-year-old has previously been of concern to the authorities for various offences, including drug trafficking.

The arrested persons are being taken to the relevant prosecuting authority.”
