The driver of the motorbike that lured and severely injured a 16-year-old girl on Liosia Street yesterday afternoon and then left her helpless on the roadway was arrested this afternoon. According to the police, the suspect is a 16-year-old of Sudanese origin.
Three more arrests had been made in the case yesterday. Specifically, the 20-year-old owner of the bike, who falsely reported to the police that the bike had been stolen, was arrested, as well as a 20-year-old man whom the 20-year-old had indicated as the manager of the bike. A short time later, a 22-year-old man, who claimed to have been a passenger on the motorcycle at the time of the accident, voluntarily surrendered and was arrested. The three men arrested are charged on a case-by-case basis with making a false statement, making a false report, aiding and abetting a criminal, failing to redeem from a life-threatening situation and breach of duty in the event of a road traffic accident.
Regarding the chronology of the case, it is recalled that the accident occurred on April 18, shortly before 6 pm, at the junction of Liosia Street, in the direction towards the centre of Athens, when a motorcycle with two people on board entrained the minor while she was attempting to cross the road. After the collision, the driver and the co-passenger of the motorbike, who fell on the roadway, did not help the 16-year-old, but got back into their vehicle and left the scene.
The 16-year-old was taken by ambulance to KAT, where she continues to be treated in critical condition.
