A case of telephone fraud committed against a 93-year-old woman, under the pretext of “emergency hospitalization of a relative”, was immediately investigated by police officers of the Argos Orestiko police station of Kastoria.
The fraudsters, claiming that the elderly woman’s daughter suffered an allegedly serious injury and was in need of immediate surgery, managed to extort from the 93-year-old woman, ten gold pounds and 1.000 euros.
As part of the investigations that followed, a 53-year-old local man was arrested for the case in an area of Larissa, by police officers of the Tirnavos police station, a member of a criminal organization active in telephone fraud, deceiving unsuspecting citizens,
The arrested man was in the role of a “collector”, while the criminal organisation he is part of lists at least two other members who are wanted, a man who is in the role of an alleged doctor and a woman who is in the role of a relative.
The pounds and money were found in the possession of the arrested man and were returned to the elderly woman, while the 53-year-old man was taken to the prosecutor of the Kastoria district court with the case against him.
