The following information is issued by Hellenic Metro SA regarding the discharge of ground slurry on roads in Kypseli:
“In the TBM excavation work for the Line 4 tunnel, the excavation face is injected under controlled pressure with foam consisting of special chemical admixtures in order to balance the ground pressure, mainly for the safety of the overlying structures. In this way, and without any subsidence, the tunnelling of the section of the line between Katehaki and Evangelismos has already been completed.
In the area of Kypseli, earlier today, a leakage through an old sewage pipeline of soil slurry, i.e. a mixture of the excavated material itself with pressure-injected foam, was observed, which ended up in the yard of an abandoned building and then in adjacent streets.
The project consortium has already removed this material and cleaned the site. No safety or permanent pollution problems are created by this event.”
