A 14-year-old boy and a 42-year-old man were arrested in Nice as part of the “Spark-Down” police operation to combat the illegal trafficking and use of fireworks. The juvenile was spotted by police officers on the afternoon of April 9, while he was outside a school complex. In his possession was a firework ready for use, while after a check two additional pyrotechnics were found and seized.

The operation is part of special measures to prevent and deter accidents from the use of fireworks, with authorities focusing on protecting citizens, especially minors, from the dangerous use of such materials, especially in places where youth gather, such as schools.

The preliminary investigation revealed that he had obtained them from the 42-year-old man, who was found in the same area. In a subsequent search, 17 rocket-type fireworks were found and seized in his possession.

The minor’s parent was also arrested in the case for neglect of supervision, and the arrested persons were taken to the relevant prosecutor.

The General Police Directorate of Attica points out that the controls will continue with undiminished intensity throughout Attica, in the context of targeted actions to protect human life and prevent dangerous incidents, according to APE-MPA.
