Cephalonia has been plunged into mourning for the death of the 19-year-old girl who was found dead in the square in Argostoli and tomorrow, Friday 17/4, relatives and friends will say their last goodbye to her. The authorities continue to investigate what happened on the fateful night that Myrto died while new information about her company is constantly coming to light.
According to the latest evidence, the 19-year-old’s company – the people who were with her in the last moments of her life – were putting on an act while Myrto was unconscious, pretending not to know her.
As Alpha reported, citing the specific information, her 23-year-old boyfriend, who was with her in the hotel room where they were using drugs, called from his mobile phone and requested an ambulance, claiming he found an unconscious girl in the street. However, the young man was not at the place where the group left the girl, but at a different one.
On the contrary, at the spot and actually next to the girl were her other two friends, the 22-year-old and the 26-year-old former weightlifting champion.
These two men claimed to passers-by that they did not know the 19-year-old, despite seeing her passed out in the street, playing a charade to avoid being discovered, the Alpha report said.
The cardiac arrest and toxicology
According to the forensic examination, the 19-year-old’s death was attributed to cardiac arrest, but the exact causes remain under investigation, while toxicology tests are pending at the same time.
“We have confidence in the authorities and we think that very soon through the case file and especially with the results of the toxicology tests, all of this will become clear. It will be seen that Myrto did not use drugs,” said Panagis Drakulogonas, a lawyer for the family of the 19-year-old girl, as reported on Thursday morning 16/4 by Mega’s “Society Hour MEGA”.
The authorities are looking into serious allegations that the three young men not only failed to provide assistance to the 19-year-old, but allegedly attempted to cover their tracks.
Reports say one of them stayed in the hotel room in order to clean up the area and took the 19-year-old’s mobile phone, which he later left in a cafeteria.
At first, he reportedly denied having the phone in his possession, but then pointed to the spot where he had left it.
For his part, the 26-year-old denies any involvement, claiming they attempted to help and that the relevant authorities were alerted.
The three arrested men face charges of intentional homicide by omission and are expected to enter a plea on Friday.
Two years after the nightmare night when the “rape pill” managed to erase her memories, a now 28-year-old girl from Argostoli has pointed to the 26-year-old former weightlifter involved in the death of 19-year-old Myrtou as the perpetrator.
Talking to Star, the woman said the 26-year-old defendant in August 2022 had slipped her the rape pill in her drink, but she did not report it at the time as she did not want to follow up.
“In August 2022, I had gone to have a drink at a restaurant in Argostoli square. I was 26 years old at the time. I sat at the bar, ordered a drink and he came and sat next to me. Although I didn’t know him, he started talking to me and then he flirted with me,” he said.
“I ordered a second drink. I started to feel very dizzy and suddenly I passed out. I don’t remember anything else from that moment. I woke up in my house the next morning. I was thinking it couldn’t have “all gone out”, something had been dropped on me. I didn’t go to the police then because we live in a small community and I didn’t want to follow up. But now that I have become a mother, I understand the pain of Myrtoo’s mother and I felt I had to be heard. I went on Tuesday night and reported the incident to Argostoli Security,” she said.
Video shows the 26-year-old carrying Myrto while she is unconscious
A shocking video has been released showing the former weightlifting champion carrying 19-year-old Myrto while she is unconscious.
The image was aired by Live News and shows the moment the 26-year-old carries her outside, as earlier the girl was allegedly using drugs, specifically cocaine.
The moment the 23-year-old friend of the 19-year-old disappears her mobile phone
The 23-year-old boyfriend of the unfortunate girl, who was allegedly with her in the hotel room, claimed to authorities that he attempted to call the ambulance, but – as he claims – the other two present, a 26-year-old and a 22-year-old, prevented him.
“We were in the apartment with Myrto. The 26-year-old came, brought us the drugs and Myrto paid him. Then he left and came back again with a new quantity of drugs which Myrto insisted on asking for. At some point, the 22-year-old defendant arrived. At some point, I went out on the balcony and saw Myrto convulsing, shaking and sitting on the bed. I thought she was doing it for fun, however she continued and that’s when we knew something was wrong. We tried to help her, we put her legs up, but nothing.
“That’s when I decided to call the ambulance and the 26-year-old and the 22-year-old told me they didn’t want an ambulance so they wouldn’t get in trouble. Eventually I phoned and they said they would take her down and say they found her in the street. The 26-year-old picked her up while she was unconscious and they took her down. I tried to get everything out of the apartment and then I walked to the hospital to leave her cell phone. There I saw her parents and the police and I was afraid to go, lest I get in trouble,” he said in his statement.
However, the evidence available to authorities appears to vary the 23-year-old’s version of events on one crucial point.
According to reports, he did not ultimately leave the 19-year-old’s mobile phone at the hospital, as he claimed, but at a cafe. There, he allegedly informed employees that a girl would drop by to pick it up.
And for this evidence, Live News presented a documentary showing Myrtle’s 23-year-old boyfriend allegedly dropping it off at the cafe and telling the manager that Myrtle would stop by to pick it up.
