A guest on the show “To Porino”, Despina Moiaraki spoke to Giorgos Liagas about the most expensive carpet sale she has ever made in Greece, revealing that it reached 180,000 euros. As she said, the buyer was a shipowner, who placed it in his residence in Thessaloniki.

“The most expensive carpet I have ever sold in Greece cost 180,000 euros. It was bought by a shipowner for his house. It was a unique, all-metal carpet from Persia, and it took me a huge effort to find it. He was also looking for it all over the world,” he said.

Then he described the special story behind its acquisition: “A Persian supplier told me that someone in Greece was looking for such a rug and that there is only one in Persia. He suggested that if I have the right contact, we could bring it in. If I had the right contact, I could get the right person, and if I had the right contact, I would ask him if I had the right contact. I brought it without paying for it in advance, because of its very high value, and we presented it to the interested party.”

She pointed out that this is a carpet of impressive dimensions, 8 metres long and 5 metres wide, made entirely of silk and with a special weaving technique (double knotted). It took about 8 to 10 years to complete and, she said, it is the only one of its kind in the world and is now in Thessaloniki, in the possession of this entrepreneur.
