The Resurrection Service was celebrated in a climate of devotion throughout Greece, with crowds of believers gathering in churches to sing “Christ is Risen”.
More specifically, at the Cathedral of Athens, the ceremony was presided over by Archbishop Ieronymos, Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, who was accompanied by the bishops of Euripus Chrysostomos and Talanthios Theologos. The ceremony for the Resurrection was attended by, among others, the Speaker of the Parliament, Nikitas Kaklamanis, the Deputy Minister of Interior, Vassilis Spanakis, representing the government, as well as the President of PASOK, Nikos Androulakis.
The “present” were also representatives of the Local Government, the Security Corps, the Armed Forces, the services of the Holy Synod and the Archdiocese, academics and a large number of believers.
Ieronimos’ message for peace
On the occasion of the Resurrection, Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece spoke about the challenges of the times, noting that people are experiencing intense insecurity and uncertainty due to wars, conflicts and threats.
“The anxiety about the future often becomes a silent cry within human existence… In this reality, man is again looking for points of orientation; he is looking for something stable, something real, something that gives meaning and hope. And that is exactly where symbols come back, not as mere shapes or historical relics, but as living testimonies of meaning and life,” he said in his message.
He stressed that the symbol is not closed in itself, but points beyond the visible, while it unites the present with memory and supports man’s path to the future.
“The symbol is never closed in itself; it always points beyond the visible. It unites the present with the depth of memory and supports man’s path to the future. But when it is cut off from the truth it carries, when it is used as a weapon or as a means of imposition, it loses its power and becomes distorted,” he said specifically.
Constantine Tasoulas: “The feeling of the Resurrection is redemptive”
The President of the Republic, Konstantinos Tasoulas, accompanied by his wife Fani Stathopoulou and their daughter Magda, attended the Resurrection Service at the Church of St. John of Posidonia in Syros.
The feeling of resurrection is the feeling of being at the heart of the Resurrection.
In a statement, Konstantinos Tasoulas said:
“Easter means crossing, passage. And today, right now, we are celebrating this very thing: the passage from death to life, from darkness to light, from despair and sorrow to joy. In an uncertain and threatening world that surrounds us, the message and feeling of the Lord’s Resurrection is redemptive!
And at such a time when Christ is joyfully heard throughout Greece and Hellenism, we wish that the victory of life and hope over death may become a victory of peace, reconciliation and prosperity in today’s troubled and troubled world!”
