One person “without signs of life” was recovered late Saturday afternoon from the wreckage of the partially collapsed building in Germasogeia, while two other people may be trapped in an apartment room next to the one where the first person was found, according to Fire Service spokesman Andreas Kettis.
Kettis said one person was retrieved by rescue teams from the wreckage of the building, “without signs of life” and a forensic pathologist is expected at the scene for an autopsy.
“The heads of the rescue teams are conferring to devise a new search and rescue plan following information that two other people may be trapped in a room of a second apartment, next to the apartment where the first person was found,” it adds.
Kettis notes that timely information about the incident and its development is “given exclusively” by the Fire Service through its representative.
Marinos Kyriakou, Deputy Mayor of Mesa Neighbourhood, told reporters that the building had been declared unfit for habitation and that a letter had been sent to the owners since last March.
Costa Michael, in charge of Limassol’s CID, said that there were 11 apartments in the building, and that, according to the first information they have, at least 20 people were living in the building. He also said they were continuing intensive investigations.
