Traffic on the Athens-Corinthos and Athens-Lamia highways has been running smoothly since the afternoon, where it was particularly heavy until after noon, due to the second large wave of excursionists who left the capital for the Easter holidays.
As reported by the traffic police, a total of 79 motorists crossed the two highways today, Good Friday, from 6am to 6pm.464 cars and in particular, 43,380 cars from the Athens-Corinthos highway and 36,084 cars from the Athens-Lamia highway.
This year’s output, according to traffic police data, is so far slightly higher than last year. Specifically, last year, from the Friday before the Saturday of Lazarus, when the Easter exodus traditionally begins to count, a total of 616,397 cars had passed through the two national networks by Good Friday, while this year, in the same period and up to six o’clock this afternoon, 629,214 cars have passed.
Specifically on Good Thursday and Good Friday, when the rush-out peaks, 234 cars passed through the two highways last year.496 cars in total, while this year, by 6 p.m., 251,255 cars (171,791 on Good Thursday and 79,464 today).
The last Athenians are expected to leave by tomorrow afternoon, so the traffic police remain on standby.
