A driver, who was allegedly intoxicated, was arrested as he attempted to drive his car into a uniformed police officer who signaled him to stop, while driving dangerously and then causing a property damage accident by leaving the scene.
It all happened at dawn, in Perea, Thessaloniki, with the 44-year-old arrested man being immobilized after a chase, during which he violated red lights, moving against a one-way street and violating a double dividing line; driving that resulted in a hit-and-run accident.
Police officers who responded found that he was driving under the influence of alcohol, lacking a driver’s license, and presenting a fake driver’s license, according to a statement from the EL.
A case was filed against the 44-year-old, who is of Albanian origin, by the Traffic Police Department of Thermi for attempted dangerous bodily injury, dangerous driving, forgery, obstruction and violations of the Road Traffic Code.
Meanwhile, a 73-year-old driver attempted to evade a traffic control yesterday afternoon in the centre of Thessaloniki. The elderly man allegedly even attempted to collide with a police car, creating a serious danger to pedestrians and other drivers, according to the police.
He was finally arrested and a case file was formed against him by the Thessaloniki Traffic Police Subdirectorate.
